Obstacles To Cure

Obstacles to Cure:                  “..there is no cure for the common birthday..” – John Glenn

Organon – Aphorism § 261

While patients with chronic diseases are using medication, the most expedient regimen is based upon the removal of any of these obstacles to cure plus the addition of their necessary opposites here and there [i.e., where appropriate]:

1. innocent mental and emotional diversions;

2. active movement in the fresh air in almost all kinds of weather (daily walks, light manual labor);

3. appropriate, nutritious, non-medicinal foods and drinks, etc.

Aphorism §261 refers to a list of things mentioned in Aphorism §260 (footnote) that should be avoided by patients with chronic diseases, in order to avoid obstacles to cure. The premise behind this concept is that the homeopathic dose is minute (ie. minimum dose) and that everything else that could in any way act medicinally must be removed from the diet and regimen (lifestyle), so that the minute dose is not “over-tuned” and antidoted by the external obstacle. Essentially, because homeopathy is “energetic” medicine, any other substance that is also medicinal, and stronger than the homeopathic medicine (remedy) will “over-tune” (ie. antidote) it. It has all to do with the theory of harmonics and frequency vibrations. This is in a way, how homeopathy works, in that the medicinal energy of the homeopathic remedy will over-tune and therefore cure the similar but weaker natural disease. But how does this all relay back to practical reality?

This list of obstacles as mentioned by Hahnemann in Aphorism §260 is quite comprehensive and rather restrictive. In my opinion, it is quite impractical and a bit fanatical… It mentions things to be avoided like: herbal teas, spices, scented flowers, tooth powders, seasoned foods, frozen foods, medicinal vegetables, old cheeses, “every excess”, sugar, salt, heated rooms, woolen clothing, excessive breast-feeding, long afternoon naps, reading while lying down, late hours, onanism, passionate play, etc… etc…. What exactly is “passionate play”? Woolen clothing? I can understand if the clothing is irritating to the skin, etc. but then that could be clothing made from any material. Why would you wear irritating clothing in any case? Reading while lying down? How does this antidote remedies… Overall, I can see where Hahnemann is coming from and where he is leading to, in that any patient should avoid those things that are irritating and causing stress in their life. I don’t agree though with the extensive list of items as called out by Hahnemann. Wasn’t it Hippocrates that said: “..let food be your medicine, and medicine be your food..”…

Another aspect that I want to mention is that we should have more faith in our remedies and their healing actions. Why would we support and practice a healing modality if its remedies are so temperamental and susceptible to being antidoted and disturbed. Aren’t we then setting ourselves up for failure, especially in this modern era of much more external influences, compared to Hahnemann’s era (+200 years ago). Having said that, I fully understand and support the concept of eliminating obstacles to cure but we have to be practical and logical as well. Restriction/suppression is also a disease… Personally, I don’t know exactly what external influences actually antidote homeopathic remedies. Coffee as an antidote has been written about over and over again. Another one is essential oils. Ask ten homeopaths and you will get 10 different answers. Some world-renowned and respected homeopaths have confirmed that coffee does not antidote homeopathic remedies (in their experience). coffee cup

So what are the challenges in the 21st century?

Although in Hahnemann’s era medical methods were brutal and coarse, these days we have to deal with more pharmaceutical onslaughts. These chemicals (essentially petroleum-based synthetics) are destructive to the body, all in the name of “medicine”. Most of these drugs only provide temporary relief in chronic (and acute) illnesses. They suppress and palliate symptoms, that would be useful for a homeopath to obtain the similimum homeopathic remedy. Suppression by allopathic medications is a huge obstacle to cure. Education of/by doctors and patients is definitely needed in this regard. Unfortunately the pharmaceutical industry (big pharma) is so corrupt and profit-oriented that they dominate the medical information media streams. People are just not receiving the correct and true information and/or they are not being told all the facts. Pharmaceuticals in general also include those used for recreational use, which are mostly addictive. Smoking and drug use, mind-altering drugs are included in this group.

Unhealthy foods (junk/fast food) can also be drugs in a way. Many of them are addictive due to the nature of their chemical ingredients. On purpose? Together with eating too much unhealthy foods come sedentary lifestyles. One needs to keep the body active through exercise and physical activity. Many of us these days have sedentary jobs (ie. sitting behind a desk at a computer, including homeopaths!). Regular exercise is suggested for a healthy body and mind.

Many people do not support alternative medicine. Often, this is due to misleading information as propagated by the big pharma mass media monopoly. People are brainwashed to believe that only the conventional allopathic approach is trialed, safe and effective. Even if these people try out alternatives, like homeopathy, their skeptical attitude and intention (thoughts) may disrupt the healing process. The mind is very powerful in situations like these. Even the “placebo” effect has been shown to be statistically significant in studies. Many say that homeopathy is just the placebo effect but I disagree.

Fear and emotional factors play a role. Many fear being ridiculed by family and friends if they try out alternatives. I have first-hand experience is this, in that my family thinks that homeopathy is hocus-pocus. I do not give in though. Allopathic mass media propaganda thrive on spreading fear on emotional and psychological grounds. The mass media is bombarded with advertisements for pharmaceuticals, with a very skewed perception of benefits versus negatives (reality).

For some strange reason many believe that all alternative approaches are evil and against the “christian” conventional way. What? The first question my parents asked me when I told them I’m studying homeopathy is if I still believe in God… haha… These archaic spiritual/moral beliefs can really become a hindrance to self-healing. There’s this strange notion the God has given the (allopathic) doctors the knowledge to heal you, or that only God heals but through their intervention. True, in a way, only “god” heals, but homeopathy is one way (and definitely a valid way) of intervention.

Obviously, also stress factors play a role in the overall well-being of an individual. The conditions must be created for the person to respond positively. These are conditions in the family home and in the work place. Many causative factors and obstacles can be eliminated by creating a balanced relationship environment.

The patients themselves plays the biggest part in removing obstacles to cure. They must be prepared to work together with the homeopathic practitioner, to make changes to lifestyle and environment, in order to allow the organs of elimination to function in their correct metabolic processes. We must not just look at the totality of symptoms, but the overall Totality. Then we can be more confident and successful in bringing about cure. obstacle
